Lombok have many beautiful place (Photo:Instagram@visitrinjani, 14/05/2026)

Lombok is the kind of place that quietly steals your heart. At first glance, it looks like Bali’s calmer neighbor, beaches, palm trees, surf spots, and tropical sunsets. But once you arrive, you quickly realize Lombok has a completely different vibe. It’s slower, less crowded, more raw, and honestly, that’s exactly why people love it.

If you’re planning your first trip to Lombok, there are a few things you should know before packing your bags and jumping on a plane.

First of all: yes, Lombok is absolutely worth visiting. But not for the same reasons people visit Bali.

Lombok is more about nature, adventure, and peaceful moments than beach clubs and nightlife. You come here for empty beaches, giant waterfalls, volcano hikes, and small villages surrounded by rice fields. Tourism exists, but local life still feels very authentic.

One of the biggest highlights is definitely Mount Rinjani, Indonesia’s second-highest volcano. Trekking Rinjani is on many travelers’ bucket lists, especially during the dry season from May to September.

But even if climbing a volcano sounds too extreme, Lombok still offers plenty of amazing experiences like surfing, snorkeling, waterfall chasing, and island hopping around the Gilis.

Getting to Lombok is also easier than many people expect. From Bali, you have three main options: flying, taking a fast boat, or using the public ferry. Flights are the quickest and most reliable, especially during rainy season. Fast boats are popular because they’re scenic and relatively simple, while ferries are the cheapest option for backpackers.

Once you arrive, transportation becomes part of the adventure. Most travelers rent scooters because it gives total freedom to explore beaches, hills, and small villages at your own pace. Roads in tourist areas are generally good, although some smaller roads can get rough or sandy. If you’re not comfortable riding scooters, private drivers are affordable and honestly much less stressful.

Beside that, many roads outside the main towns are dark, animals sometimes wander onto the road, and visibility can be pretty bad. A good helmet is also a must if you rent a scooter.

Now let’s talk about the best places to visit. South Lombok is the most popular area, especially around Kuta Lombok. This region has beautiful beaches like Selong Belanak, Tanjung Aan, Mawun, and surfing spots like Gerupuk. The atmosphere is relaxed, with cafes, surf camps, and sunset viewpoints everywhere.

If you want greener scenery, head to Tetebatu or Sembalun in East Lombok. Rice terraces, waterfalls, and cool mountain air make these areas feel completely different from the coast.

Gili Trawangan is more social and lively, Gili Air is calmer and balanced, while Gili Meno is quiet and romantic. Many travelers actually prefer Gili Air because it offers a little bit of everything without feeling too crowded.

One thing travelers often mention about Lombok is how peaceful it feels compared to Bali. The island still has wide open spaces, local traditions, and a slower rhythm of life.

So if you’re looking for luxury malls and nonstop parties, Lombok may not be your place. But if you want adventure, nature, sunsets, surfing, mountain views, and an island that still feels genuine, Lombok might become your favorite destination in Indonesia.
